Climate in Croatia is excellent for sailors and sea lovers, it is typically Mediterranean climate. Off seasons are mildly rainy and windy, with pleasant temperatures up to 20 degrees. Summers are pretty hot, especially in July and August, when the temperature can rise to even 40 degrees. Still, when on a boat and with constant opportunity to cool yourself in the beautiful sky-blue sea, you won’t feel the hotness of the weather. Northern, central and southern Dalmatia differ in climate, where the North Adriatic is with somewhat lower temperatures and more winds during the season, while the Central and southern Dalmatia are with some higher temperatures during the season and not that windy. Croatia is an excellent choice for spending your sailing vacation as whichever part of the year you chose, you will definitely enjoy it. When sailing in Croatia you need to pay attention to the weather forecast and the winds during your sailing period.
Bura, a northeast wind that is the strongest in this area, and it appears in almost all parts of Croatia, but the strength is different depending on the area. This wind is stronger during autumn, winter and the beginning of spring, where it can last for a few days, while during summer it usually lasts for a maximum of 1 or 2 days.
Tramontana is a wind similar to Bura. It is a somewhat milder version of it, even though it can be stronger further away from the coast, causing big waves and followed by a clear sky. Jugo, a southeast humid wind. It usually comes with rain, and a great deal of humidity and clouds. It can also be stronger and usually lasts for several days.
Maestral, a mild north west wind that is one of the most favorite among the sailors, that is why it is famous as the friend of all sailors. It cools down the temperatures and gives the pleasant feeling on warm summer days.
Daily weather reports are available online on www.meteo.hr and also radio stations in Croatia give the updated weather information during the day.
Weather forecast is scheduled on radio every 15 minutes and is available in Croatian, English, Italian and German language. It is updated at 7:00, 13:00 and 19:00 hrs ( local time). It also includes the forecast for the next 24 hours.
